DIET, Dima Hasao, Kalachand is the only Govt. Teacher Education Institute for teachers (both In-service and Pre-service) in entire Dima Hasao District. The glorious journey of DIET, Dima Hasao, Kalachand started in the year 1996 and with the first batch of 6 months In-Service Teacher Training (JBT) in the year 2006.
In the changing contemporary context, DIET, Dima Hasao, Kalachand needs a shared vision for creating trained and professionally, competent and socially responsible teachers. The need of the hour is to do and serve our best. I welcome and with hope that DIET, Dima Hasao, Kalachand will do its best to serve the nation in providing teacher’s education and training to the perspective teacher trainees.

The District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) was established on 1995 at Kalachand, Dima Hasao District which is about 9.00 KM away from Maibang and 60 KM far way from Haflong (Headquarter of this District) by the Government of Assam as per recommendation of the National Policy of Education (NPE), 1986. DIET, Dima Hasao is the only premier and nodal institution in the entire district of Dima Hasao responsible for providing an academic and resource support towards universalization of elementary education through qualitative improvement of the education scenario of the district.
Various educational programmes and related schemes undertaken by the Government, SSA and other concerned authorities as per guideline of Government have been implemented by the DIET, Dima Hasao.

Accordingly, we have to equip prospective human resources in our present teaching profession that can be able to bring out the inner pleasing qualities in person into mode of afford feeling, emotion and action. In the same time, it also helps us effectively to face future challenging in the field of education.

We must use democratic potential to the fullest to spread quality education and practical knowledge. Indeed, the mission of our DIET, Dima Hasao, Kalachand is to make knowledge, skills available to anybody, anywhere, anytime.
Accordingly, proper teaching, provisioning of skill sets and capacity building of its teachers are tools, which shall make our human resources competent, confident to face the new set of challenge of a fast changing world.
We provide the following activities:-
a) To improves the quality of learning through research studies and innovative practices.
b) To train teachers of this district of Dima Hasao through long term and short term training programmes.
c) Strong and effective collaboration support system between DIET, SSA, RMSA, other agencies, etc.

Role of DIET:
- DIET would continue to be the nodal institutions at the district level to conduct pre service and in-service training for elementary and secondary school teachers.
- It would arrange need-based training for teachers of the district.
- DIET would also organize and support teachers.
- Professional and leadership development programs for Head Teachers, senior teachers, and School Management Committees on a continued basis.
- It would serve as an Education Resource Centre for the district in conjunction with BITEs, BRCs, CRCs, etc.
- It would undertake action research programs for teachers, teacher trainees and teacher-educators.
- DIET would develop district academic plans and monitor the quality of schools and teaching.
- It would design interventions for direct support to schools and work with special groups in the district.
- DIET would address quality issues in elementary and secondary education of the district.
Functions of DIET:
- Training and orientation of elementary and secondary school teachers (both pre-service and in- service) on various school subjects.
- Orientation of Heads of School Complexes on new trends in education.
- Academic and resource support to the elementary and secondary education systems of the district.
- To undertake Action research to deal with the specific academic problems of the district in achieving the objectives of education.
- To familiarize the stake holders of school education of the district with new trends and approaches in education.
- To organize seminars and workshops on various educational topics to enhance the abilities of teacher and teacher-educators.
- Extension activities and interaction with the field.
- To act as a resource and learning center for teachers and trainees.
- Development of locally relevant materials as teaching aids, evaluation tools etc.
- To serve as an evaluation center for elementary and secondary school programmes.
